چکیده

Background. The plants brought by Arabs were of real therapeutic values. Ibn Al-Baitar, an Islamic scholar (pharmacist, botanist, and physician), in his encyclopedia wrote the detailed characterization more than one thousand herbs describing their medicinal value, methods preparation, route administration. Objectives. current investigation points towards quantitative phenolic contents among four edible Malva species (Malva sylvestris L., oxyloba Boiss., parviflora aegyptia L.) also assessing antibacterial activity against Gram-positive isolate (Staphylococcus aureus) Gram-negative strains Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Shigella sonnei, Proteus vulgaris. It aimed to evaluate free radical scavenging hexane, methanolic, aqueous, acetone extracts species. Methods. By utilizing Folin–Ciocalteu procedure gallic acid as a reference molecule, estimated. In addition, broth microdilution method was used plants’ 16 extracts, DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) utilized assess abovementioned oxidative stress. Results. results showed that methanolic extract M. has highest phenols (191.54 ± 2.84 mg GAE/g) best antioxidant capacity with IC50 value 1.94 1.84 µg/ml, which is very close Trolox. Regarding ferrous ion chelating extract, exhibits appreciable values 52.7 1.8 µg/ml. plant strong MIC 0.0078 mg/ml. Conclusion. pharmacological potential valuable natural product can be main ingredient design development new formulations. exerts multiple inhibitory properties stress bacterial growth. As such, it emerging promising agent for treatment various neurodegenerative diseases many types human infectious diseases.

New steroidal lactones and homomonoterpenic glucoside from fruits of Malva sylvestris L.

Phytochemical investigation of the ethanolic extract of defatted fruits of Malva sylvestris Linn. (Malvaceae) led to the isolation of six new steroidal lactones and a homomonoterpenic glucoside along with beta-sitosterol-3-beta-D-glucopyranoside. The structures of new phytoconstituents have been elucidated as cholest-5-en-3a-ol-18(21)-olide (sylvestrosterol A), cholest-9(11)-en-3alpha-ol-18(21)...
